Divide Fire Academy

The Divide Volunteer Fire Academy is four months of progressive, fast-paced, and hands-on experience developed to provide you with enough skills and abilities to become a volunteer firefighter with the Garden Valley Fire or Georgetown departments. The academy begins in January of each year with applications available from either department prior to the academy start-up date.

The first month will teach basic emergency medical skills and provide a “First Responder” certification with CPR/AED training. The remaining four months of training are classroom and hands-on lessons and lectures. During these four months, fire behavior and fire chemistry will be taught. Students will learn how to effectively fight structural and wildland fire, aggressively but safely. Training in both of these areas will also be hands-on. Certified instructors will teach vehicle extrication and stabilization and proper use of SCBA equipment. This State Fire Marshals accredited program may be used for college units/credits.

The academy meets on Tuesdays and Saturdays. After completion of the academy fire personnel are required to attend one week night training, per month. As a volunteer for Garden Valley or Georgetown Fire departments, all protective gear and uniforms will be provided. For more information and/or a brochure please contact us.
