The Garden Valley Fire Protection District is staffed at all times, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by a minimum of 2 career personnel. Each one of the three shifts has a Captain and an Engineer assigned to it. The Garden Valley Fire Protection District career firefighters work a 48 hour on, 96 hour off schedule. The Fire Chief and/or the Assistant Chiefs respond to emergency dispatches with the career staff. Volunteer personnel respond to emergency dispatches when they are available to provide additional resources. Automatic mutual aid is provided by the Georgetown Fire Department, El Dorado County Fire Protection District, Cal Fire and the US Forest Service depending on the location and type of call. The Garden Valley Fire Protection District provides automatic mutual aid to these agencies in return. Dispatching is done through the Interagency Emergency Command Center located at the Camino El-Dorado/Amador unit Cal Fire headquarters
